About this beach

Children's Pool is a small La Jolla beach behind a seawall. The wall was built to make a protected swimming area, but sand has built up inside it, and today it's best known for the harbor seals, and sometimes sea lions, that rest on the sand year-round.

Pupping season closure

The beach is closed to the public during harbor seal pupping season, December 15 through May 15 every year.

In the water

Reefs just offshore draw scuba divers but can make very strong currents, especially in high surf. Children's Pool has one of San Diego's nine permanent lifeguard stations, plus restrooms and showers.

Rules

No alcohol, glass, smoking, littering, loud noise, camping or dogs.
