About this beach

Carlsbad State Beach runs along Carlsbad Boulevard from Pine Avenue to Cannon Road, with its main entrance at Tamarack. It's a State Parks beach used for swimming, surfing, windsurfing, snorkeling and fishing.

Current closure

The Tamarack day-use lot is closed to vehicles after recent swells and high tides eroded the area; walkers and cyclists can still get through. State Parks says more high surf and coastal flooding is expected and hasn't said when the lot will reopen (checked October 25, 2026).

Hours and facilities

The park is open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., and the parking lot 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. There are restrooms, outdoor showers and drinking water, and the beach is wheelchair accessible. Parking is run by LAZ Parking, and state park annual passes are accepted.

Rules

Dogs aren't allowed on Carlsbad State Beach.
